If you’re currently looking for representation, then it’s time to do some homework.
What you’re looking for is an agency that has a proven track record of working with top brands and production companies. We’re talking about internationally recognised names here.
This gives you an idea of the quality of briefs and opportunities that come into the agency.
You’ll also want to look for online reviews, but remember not to pay too much attention to the odd negative review. Every agency will have one or two of those. It’s when they start to outnumber the positive ones that you really need to take note.
Signing a contract
It’s a pretty exciting moment when you sign with an agency that you get a good feeling about, but you want to take it slowly. Read anything you’re about to sign at least twice just to be sure that you’re happy with it.
You also want to make sure that there is an exit clause that allows both you or the agency to terminate the agreement at any time. This is standard practice and an essential part of any agreement that protects both parties.
Pay attention to your finances
Everyone needs to pay taxes so you really need to keep on top of that. While some clients will deduct P.A.Y.G. tax from your payment, not all of them will. It’s your responsibility to make sure that you’re 100% tax compliant at all times.
