Before we start shooting, we need to educate you on the specific "looks" agencies require. Understanding these styles ensures you book the right package for your goals.

  • Commercial/Lifestyle: Features smiling, approachable expressions and bright lighting. This style is used for catalogues and advertisements.
  • Editorial/High Fashion: Characterised by moody lighting, sharp shadows, serious expressions, and avant-garde styling.
  • Fitness/Physique: Utilises lighting techniques that emphasise anatomy and muscle definition.

How to Move Like a Pro

Many men feel awkward in front of the camera. The secret? Men look best when they are “doing,” not just “posing.”

  • The "Action" Method: Focus on movement. Walking, adjusting cuffs, or checking a watch creates a natural, dynamic image.
  • Jawline Mastery: Use the "Turtle" technique, pushing your face slightly forward - to eliminate double chins and sharpen the jawline.
  • Hand Placement: Often the biggest struggle for male models. Keep it simple: thumbs in pockets, hand on chin, or adjusting a collar.
  • Body Posture: Create angles with your body. Lean on props or use the "S" curve technique to create visual interest.

The "Pre-Shoot" Checklist: Preparation & Grooming

Great photos are made before you even step into the studio. 

  • Skin & Face: Aim for matte skin rather than shiny skin - it photographs significantly better. 
  • Hair: Follow the "3-Day Rule." Get a haircut 3 days before the shoot, not the day of, to let it settle. 
  • Wardrobe: Bring options (Fitted Tee, Suit Jacket, Denim, Leather). Remember: tailoring and fit are the #1 most important factors.
  • The Night Before: Prioritise hydration and sleep. Avoid salty foods to prevent facial bloating.
